Change of Season, Change of Wardrobe

I am ready for a change of season.

Even though it is only August 4th, I think I am in need of a change of season. Back to school ads are popping up everywhere signaling that Fall is upon us. It is about this time of year that I start to think about rearranging my closet.

I slowly start to move my sun dresses, shorts, t-shirts, and other summer inspired garments toward the tail end of my closet. Since I live in Florida, (where we usually fluctuate between hot and hotter) I do not let them go too far. This is also a good time to assess what I have worn during this last spring/summer season, and agonize over what I should donate.

Last winter we had a colder season than usual, which was fun (for a little while). I was able to pull out my favorite scarves, sweaters, and wraps out of my seasonal storage bags. They looked just as fresh as when I stored them.

I encourage you to start filtering through your spring/summer wardrobe, even if it is just one drawer at a time. You will be amazed how a little bit of preventative organization will start you off on the right foot as we look forward to another Fall season.

Closet Management & Beyond...

How much time do you spend trying to pick out your outfit in the morning? I used to rip through my closet trying to find the perfect blouse or my favorite skirt. I would throw the rejected pieces on my bed, then rush out the door. Finding that one perfect piece can not only tie your look together, but can essentially sky rocket your confidence level.

However, not locating your favorite finishing touch can put you in a funk for the rest of the day. How do we avoid this closet chaos?

1.Play Dress Up: Try on a few outfits and experiment with different accessories, shoes and handbags. A couple trendy pieces can update your look. This will also help you realize what you should keep and pitch in your wardrobe.

2.Plan ahead: After brainstorming a few outfits for the week, lay out your outfit the night before. You will be less likely to second guess yourself in the morning.

3.Clean as you go: If you have to rip through your closet while getting ready for work (or a date), try to put your "rejects" right back on the hanger. When you return home you will be glad you don't have a mound of clothes in the middle of your room.

4.Organization is Key: Being organized goes a long way. Arrange your hanging garments by color, and arrange your dresser drawers by category(short-sleeved tees, pajamas, tanktops, shorts, leggings, etc.) Grab a FlipFold to fold your jeans, workout tees, long and short sleeved shirts. Packing for a Weekend Getaway

It is hard to believe that the 4th of July is almost here. It feels like we were just ringing in the New Year! Time to break out the sparklers and apple pie!

Packing for a weekend getaway to the beach or the lake can be as simple as throwing a few bathing suits, your favorite cover ups, and a few t-shirts in a old duffle bag. However, over the years I have found that if I pack a little bit each day the task isn't as daunting, and I don't overpack.

I usually try to bring an oversized weekender tote so I can pack my clothes, sandals, toiletries, and accessories together. This prevents me from juggling multiple bags, which I have done too many times.

Time for Summer Vacation....Let's Get Packing

Now that Memorial Day Weekend has come & gone, it is time to start focusing on Summer-finally! It is time to bring out the bathing suits, beach towels, and BBQ sets.

But what about packing? Have you thought about what to pack? What items will be versatile, take up as little space as necessary, or even decrease your ironing time when you get to your destination?

Outfits:
Try to pack your clothing by outfits. Packing specific outfits will help you decide what you are going to wear ahead of time, and decrease the chance of packing unnecessary extras. Choose fabrics that will not wrinkle easily-try to aim for a material that can stretch.

Shoes:
Try to select shoes that will work with almost every outfit. Consider your vacation destination, you might not need heels(gasp!), or maybe just 1 pair of sneakers.

Shopping:
If you're like me, I always find a few bargains to take home. But sometimes, I don't have enough space in my suitcase. I usually throw my Flip 'N Go(my favorite "everything" bag)in the bottom of my suitcase while packing (before my trip). Tips to Organize Your Wardrobe

Good afternoon!

I just found this great post from one of my new favorite blogs, "Your Home, Only Better". It is a challenge to makeover your wardrobe by truly examining what you wear, when you wear it, & if you really need it. This is what I find to be the hardest part of any organizational task.Sometimes I feel a connection to a garment or knickknack, but only because I have been letting it take up valuable space in my closet. Just because I have had something forever, doesn't mean I should continue to let it occupy prime real estate.But the question we need to ask ourselves is, when was the last time we wore that (now ridiculous-looking) party dress from the 80s?

Tide Loads of Hope- Helping Communities In Times of Need

Tide's "Loads of Hope" is an amazing program that offers mobile laundromat services for families & communities who have been affected by disasters. Each mobile laundromat consists of one main truck and several vans and at least 32 washers AND dryers. Each day, the team can wash, dry and fold 300 loads of laundry, which is typically the amount of laundry for 1 family each year!


Loads of Hope has helped communities in California, Iowa, Lousiana,North Dakota, and Texas. Their next stop is Nashville,TN to help flood victims.

Use FlipFold to Fold Your Linens

Have you ever tried folding linens with your FlipFold? You will be able to fold your sheets,towels and pillowcases to a crisp uniform size and save room in your linen closet. You might even want to leave your linen closet doors open when you have a house guest. Everything will look so neat and uniform they might think they are in a five star hotel!

Follow these steps to fold a sheet:
1.Pre-fold the sheet into quarters
2.Lay the rectangular folded sheet over the FlipFold
3. Make sure there is equal overlap on noth sides of the FlipFold. (This is will ensure you will get a crisp, even fold).
4. FlipFold as usual.

Even though pre-folding of larger linens, such as sheets and towels, is necessary using FlipFold will allow your linens to be folded to the same dimension. This will save space in your closet while helping you become more organized.

Here's a FlipTip:
Place your pillowcases on top of your pre-folded sheet before you FlipFold.This will allow you to store your sheet sets together, no more searching through your closet!

Empower Your Children

As a mother of two, I am always trying to think of ways to empower my girls. Whether it was by helping out around the house, learning how to cook, or folding their own laundry, I wanted to make sure they knew the importance of responsibility. Many times while teaching my girls how to stand on their own two feet, I was met with a little push back. But now that they are older they see the value in what I was trying to teach them- and it really did begin with teaching them how to fold their own laundry! Who would have thought! I think they were some of the few co-eds who knew their way around the dorm laundry room.

Please let us know if you have any stories or experiences as to how you are empowering your kids or teaching them how to take responsibility into their own hands!

Start Your Spring Cleaning With The FlipFOLD

It's that time of year when we can start putting away our winter clothes and get ready for Spring! YAY! Let the FlipFOLD help you start off spring cleaning on the right foot.

Use the FlipFOLD to neatly fold your favorite sweaters and blankets before you store them for the spring and summer months. The FlipFOLD will save you tons of space in your closets and drawers, and when it is time to pull out your winter items they will be wrinkle free! You will now be able to stay organized no matter what season it is!


How to fold a sweater or long sleeve shirt:
1. Lay the shirt face down on the FlipFOLD and fold the bottom of the shirt to the edge of the board.
2. Fold the [long] sleeves into the perimeter of the board. If folding a hooded sweatshirt, fold the hood into the perimeter of the board also.
3. Then simply flip the 2 side panels one at a time, then the middle panel- just flip, flip, flip & fold! If your sweater is extra bulky you may want to make the last fold by hand.
4. In seconds, you now have a uniform, neatly folded sweater or long sleeve shirt!

How to fold a blanket:

1. Fold the blanket in half lengthwise and place on the FlipFOLD. If the blanket is over sized make sure that the overlap is the same on the top and bottom of the board.
2. Then simply flip the 2 side panels one at a time, then the middle panel.
3. In seconds, you now have a crisply folded blanket. You won't believe how much space you will save in your linen closet!

2010 Will be a "FLIPPIN" good year!

OK...It's that time of year again...The time that we look forward to starting anew...a clean slate....this year I am really going to do it right....I will be organized...I will exercise...I will eat right...I will be a better person....sound familiar????

If it does...GOOD. I truely believe that positive thinking and good intentions are a necessary first step to making Good things happen.
Now, I will be the first one to admit that I can not remember a year that I actually acheived my entire list of resolutions :-( But I will pat myself on the back for chipping away at the big mountain of challenges that I recognize every New Year's Day.

I will jump into 2010 with my "Large basket of unfolded laundry"(obviously this is a metephor for my "to do" list, you know I have a FLIPFOLD ) ....and fold one piece at a time. I plan on getting to the bottom of the pile this year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR friends...2010 WILL BE A "FLIPPIN GOOD YEAR" !!!!!

What's your favorite COLOR

The famous question used to be "Does size make a difference???? I won't even venture an answer to that one :). But how about this one.."Does COLOR make adifference?" I can definately answer this one with a definate NO.....but color can make you feel good....

Think about it. Does your mood change for the better (or the worse) when you wear or surround yourself with different colors??? I know my mood is definately effected by colors. So, I took my crazy fixation with color and imposed it on my FLIPFOLDS. We started with basic Blue. (who doesn't like blue). Then we added green, yellow, pink red, purple, white, black, and now our newest additions orange and lavender.

We have all of these colors because they make me (and apparently so many of you) just feel soo good. Some people, superorganizers, like to color code by room or by user. Kristen gets Pink and Bradd gets green.

Me...I just love color!! Believe it or not, there is not a day that goes by that someone doesn't call our office and ask, "Does one color work better than others?" NO NO NO....Color makes no difference....it just makes ME feel good!

Organizing with PETER WALSH...

OK....I have died and gone to organizing Heaven!!!
When I went to HSN this August, I was lucky enough to do 3 shows with
the King of all organizing Mr. Peter Walsh!

I am sure you all recognize Peter from his many appearances on the OPRAH show. You also will remember him from Clean Sweep. The ability that this man has when it comes to "cutting the clutter" is amazing. He has an uncanny way of looking at an unorganized situation and creating a step by step path to create order.

He calls himself an Organizing Geek...but this is a Geek we should all aspire to be. He breaks down the problem step by step, uses the right tools, (he loves the FlipFOLD), and energizes you to tackle the task.

I can't help but wonder if that cute Aussie accent helps him...his organizing words are inspiring.

I will be back on HSN September 16th at 6am and 2pm...I promise I will try to channel THE KING!
